Bamboo fibre gave eco friendly lanyards their credibility in the first place: soft to wear, screen printed in up to four colours, and sourced from a plant that regrows in three to five years without pesticides or artificial irrigation. Bamboo lanyards come in a smooth finish and a ribbed finish, both starting from 100 units. Paper lanyards are a more recent arrival made from paper pulp fibre that is fully biodegradable, suited to events where the organiser wants the lanyard to compost at the end of the day rather than go to landfill. rPET lanyards are made from recycled plastic bottles converted into polyester fibre, giving them familiar durability while keeping plastic out of landfill.

An environmental consultancy ordering lanyards for a staff conference picks bamboo lanyards because handing out a conventional polyester lanyard at a sustainability-themed event would be exactly the kind of contradiction their own delegates would notice and raise a pointed question about. The lanyard carries both the logo and the message in the same piece, without any contradiction between the two.

Bamboo, paper, and rPET lanyards can all be screen printed with a logo in up to four spot colours along the full length of the strap.

Good to Know

Which material has the strongest biodegradable credential?

Paper lanyards break down in composting conditions at end of life rather than persisting in landfill for decades. Bamboo lanyards also biodegrade as a natural plant fibre, giving them a stronger end-of-life credential than rPET.

Does the material affect how the lanyard is branded?

All three materials can be screen printed in up to four spot colours the same way as conventional polyester, so the branding result is not affected by the material choice. Bamboo and paper fibres have a natural texture in the strap itself, which some organisations consider part of the eco aesthetic.

What is a paper lanyard and how does it differ from bamboo?

A paper lanyard is made from paper pulp fibre woven into a strap rather than a sheet of paper, and holds up for single-event wear. Bamboo lanyards are made from spun bamboo fibre for repeated use, making them the better fit for workplace ID programmes and multi-day events.

What is the minimum order for these lanyards?

All three types start at 100 units. Regular production takes approx 2–3 weeks from artwork approval.
