5 Promotional Lanyards That Will Make Your Business Stand Out

The promotional lanyard industry can be very competitive, so getting your business’s marketing right the first time is essential to attract new clients and building loyalty with current ones. To do this, you must ensure that your design stands out from the crowd and that people remember it when they see it. When you’re ready to start designing your custom lanyards, consider these five types of promotional lanyards that will make your business stand out from the rest.

1. Printed Lanyards
Typically, these are made from a polyester base with a rubber-coated metal core. The neck strap is usually a separate piece and can be tied to match personal preferences or left loose to accommodate whatever you need it for. Printed lanyards typically feature swivel or breakaway connections, making them easy to use and safe to wear while performing tasks.

Colour choices are usually limited on printed lanyards, ideal for one-time events like trade shows where cost is an issue, but visibility is not. More permanent printing methods like dye sublimation and thermal transfer can give you more options for customization.

2. Unprinted Lanyards
Many small businesses purchase unprinted lanyards, meaning their logo and branding are printed on a separate piece. This allows for maximum customisation of where, how big, and what colour a logo is.

The downside? There are no added benefits to printing directly onto unprinted lanyards. Also, there are often less expensive than printed versions and can offer you more options in terms of length. But not all unprinted lanyards come with clips or swivels, so be sure to check before you buy.
Not just anyone can print on unprinted items, so it's important to double-check with your vendor about getting exactly what you want before ordering them for your brand.

3. Breakaway Lanyards
Breakaway lanyards are used in a wide variety of industries, especially when employees are interacting with customers. If someone grabbed a traditional necklace lanyard, it could lead to significant injury. But with breakaway technology, an employee can't be held by the neck if someone grabs on too tightly. A pull on a breakaway lanyard causes it to instantly disengage from one's neck while remaining connected to its wearer. This allows employees to move around their workplace but ensures their safety.

4. Eco-friendly Lanyards
Lanyards are great for holding badges, but not all are made equal. For example, a lanyard made from polyester may look nice and seem durable, but it’s not. While polyester is strong and inexpensive to produce, it degrades with exposure to sunlight.

Instead, opt for eco-friendly, which both hold up better in sunlight (thus lasting longer) and can be taken care of easier. If you’re truly worried about environmental damage, choose an eco-friendly option.

5. Woven Lanyards
Anyone who’s ever attended a large event knows how much pain it can be to get their hands on one-use lanyards for their conference badge. The line at registration is always long, so organisers have devised creative solutions—like giving away pins or tickets for attendees to redeem later. Woven lanyards are an excellent alternative: They hold everything from key cards and ID badges to name tags and even mobile phones. The best part? They’re easy to replace and offer multiple uses.
